PORTSMOUTH — John Tabor came to Portsmouth in 1987 to start a newspaper war with the Portsmouth Herald, publishing the rival Portsmouth Press.
Three decades later he’ll retire at year’s end from his post as president and publisher of Seacoast Media Group, a $29 million diversified media company that publishes the Portsmouth Herald, Foster’s Daily Democrat and weekly papers in Maine and New Hampshire; prints 160 newspapers including the New Hampshire Union Leader, Lowell Sun and Fitchburg Sentinel & Enterprise, and offers robust digital marketing, direct mail and commercial delivery services.
