A deputy police chief on leave pending a criminal investigation has joined the fight to keep secret details of an audit alleging mismanagement and potential misconduct on the part of the Salem Police Department.

Lawyers for five litigants — including Salem Deputy Police Chief Robert Morin, the police union and the town — were in Rockingham County Superior Court in Brentwood on Thursday to argue before Judge Andy Schulman why the public should not know what is in the report.

The New Hampshire Union Leader and the American Civil Liberties Union of New Hampshire are suing under the state’s Right-to-Know law for an uncensored copy of the audit, which was released last month but was highly redacted.
