The New Hampshire Press Association is now accepting entries for its 2020 Excellence in Journalism Contest.
All Press Association members in good standing are eligible to apply at https://www.newspapercontest.com/Contests/NewHampshirePressAssociation.aspx. There are full instructions at the site on how to sign up and enter.
Previous accounts have been purged from the contest site and members must set up new accounts for the 2020 contest, which covers the calendar year from Jan. 1, 2020, to Dec. 31, 2020.
The contest deadline is March 8, 2021. Finalists will be announced the week of May 17. Public health conditions permitting, an awards banquet will be held the third or fourth week in June.
Please note these important changes from last year’s contest:
There are now just two classes of news organizations. Class 1 – daily news organizations and Class 2 – non-daily news organizations. The contest no longer distinguishes between small and large newsrooms.
The class assigned to entries submitted by freelance journalists will now be determined by the class of the news organization for which the entry was produced. For example, freelance content published in a daily news organization would be Class 1 while content published in a non-daily news organization would be Class 2.
The entry fee for all non-excellence award categories is $5. This eliminates the $7 fee. The fee for all “excellence” awards – lifetime achievement, journalist of the year, etc. – remains $25.
Several category descriptions have been updated. Please read each category description carefully to ensure entries meet the stated criteria for consideration.
Members will receive a follow-up email within the next couple of days to confirm their current contest classification.
Please submit all questions to NHPA Executive Director Phil Kincade pwkincade@gmail.com.
